Restaurant Review:
Lanenah & Zaatar

University City

Sharjah has been surprising us quite a bit lately with all the new restaurants that have come up there. Well we headed back to the city, something we hadn’t thought we’d be doing this often, to sample the food at a little restaurant close to University City called Labenah & Zaatar. Complete with proper Manoushe ovens, an ice cream counter and more, the little restaurant is more a place to take away from than a sit down restaurant. Further, as the name suggests, the restaurant obviously serves up different types of Manakish or Manoushe but their menu doesn’t just stop there! They offer their versions of Italian food as well. Read on to find out more about what we ate and drank!

  • Fresh Mango Juice
  • Fresh Strawberry Juice
  • Pomegranate Mojito
  • Blueberry Mojito

  • Tabbouleh
  • Fattoush
  • Chicken Caesar Salad With Grilled Chicken Breast, Lettuce, Parmesan Cheese, Toast And Caesar Sauce

  • Arabiata Chicken: Penne Pasta, Chicken Breast, Tomato Sauce, Basil, Red Capsicum, Parmesan Cheese In Olive Oil
  • Chicken Shawarma In Dough With French Fries, Special Shawarma Sauce And Pickled Cucumbers
  • Tawook In Dough: Minced Tawook, French Fries, Tawook Sauce And Pickles
  • Akkawi Cheese Manakish
  • Meat In Dough
The menu at Labenah & Zaatar is quite extensive! Out of everything we had, we gave top marks to the Meat in Dough and Akkawi Cheese manakish while the salads came a close second. The pastas are not the most authentic in terms of Italian taste and flavor but obviously we weren’t expecting it to be either. With regard to taste, it was flavorsome albeit slightly too heavy on the cream. The mojitos were refreshing as were the juices and we would have loved to try the ice creams that are prepared on order but alas, the ice cream man (not the one from the olden day horror film) was absent during our session.

Overall, Labenah & Zaatar is a nice little predominantly take away restaurant that has a nice selection of Arabic food on the menu along with interesting pasta dishes and pizzas made their way. If you’re in Sharjah and in the mood for some good comfort food, then Labenah & Zaatar with its friendly faces is the way to go!
