Restaurant Review:
Sukkar

Box Park
Dubai

Logma, the gem located at Box Park, is the go to place for anyone craving or wanting to try Khaleeji and Emirati cuisine in the UAE and with good reason. We credit this restaurant for bringing the once unknown cuisine to the fore and introducing it to expats and tourists in an urban way and setting. The group behind Logma now present Sukkar (the Arabic word for sugar), a Khaleeji dessert concept and essentially Logma’s ‘sweet’ sister as we like to call it! With both restaurants adjacent to each other at the colorful, bustling Box Park, there’s no question that a visit to one will have you end up at the other one too (at least we can safely say that will happen to us whenever we visit). Sukkar boasts of cozy yet lively interiors and bright sweet treats on offer, and here is everything we had at the recent preview we attended:

  • Coconut Milk Cake: Coconut Cake, Coconut Milk Sauce, Whipped Cream, Fresh Coconut Shavings
  • Horlicks: Horlicks Cake, Horlicks Milk Sauce, Light Whipped Cream, Frosties Cornflakes
  • Saffron Sukkar Puff
  • Kunafa Rose Cake: Light Cream Cheese with Rose, Kunafa, Dried Rose Petals
  • Orange Brownie
  • Arabian Affogato: Arabic Coffee, Vanilla Ice Cream, Dates & Lotus

Milk cakes are all the rage these days and we’ve tried our fair share. However, while we’ve liked some and disliked others, the two that we had at Sukkar definitely make it to the top of our milk cake list! The coconut variant; light, fluffy and very creamy is a true treat but the one that really blew us away, in large part because this is the first time we’ve seen this on a dessert menu was the Horlicks milk cake. Growing up in the UAE, Horlicks was quite a significant part of childhood and we felt like kids again when this was brought to the table. Overall, the milk cakes were big hits with us! The Kunafa Rose cake was the other treat that we couldn’t get enough of and we kept gobbling huge bites of the three cakes, alternating between the mouthwatering flavors packed in them. Stamps and Stubs’ coffee lover was all praise for the Affogato which has been created after much discussion over the kind of coffee to use to add a special Khaleeji touch to the usual Affogato.

At the risk of sounding cheesy, we can safely say that Box Park gets an added touch of inimitable sweetness, all thanks to Sukkar!
