Restaurant Review:
Sugar Factory

City Walk 2
Dubai, UAE

It’s bright, it’s huge, it’s colorful, it’s a celebrity favorite and it is situated in some of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world like Chicago, Las Vegas, New York City and our good old Dubai! Since its arrival in the city, Sugar Factory has been delighting food connoisseurs with their vibrant selection of enormous exotic lollipop filled drinks, generous savory dishes from pastas to sandwiches to grills and more and gigantic desserts; each more unique than the next. In Dubai, Sugar Factory can be found at City Walk and Dubai Festival City and we visited the former for our tasting. The restaurant is a lavish space with lush seating and a colorful décor with a multi-storeyed wall covered in photos of celebrities including some of the Kardashians posing with their favorite items from the restaurant. Another part of the restaurant features a well-stocked candy store which was constantly filled with kids and adults picking their favorites. The menu is a labyrinth of tempting offerings and it took us a while but with a lot of help from restaurant Manager Chatur and our server Suzette, we managed to select the following:

Drinks

  • Virgin Lollipop Passion: A taste of the tropics, this signature goblet is a combination of watermelon, coconut, apple and pineapple which is garnished with lollipops.
  • Tie-Dye Milkshake: Vanilla ice cream with chocolate ganache topped with whipped cream, cotton candy and rainbow sprinkles.

Appetizers

  • Rainbow Sliders: Grilled chicken, buffalo chicken, fried fish and fried chicken and grilled angus beef patty served on sugar factory logo colored buns with lettuce, tomato and the restaurant’s special sauce. We replaced the beef with another chicken option.
  • Asian Chicken and Lettuce tacos: Asian chicken mince preparation infused with wok sauce, water chestnuts, spring onion and garlic served with lettuce cups with sriracha aioli.
  • Ninja Fries: A portion of your choice of French Fries (or sweet potato fries) topped with cheese sauce, jalapenos, guacamole and a drizzle of sour cream, garnished with crispy onions and green onions.
  • Popcorn Shrimp Margarita: Crispy fried shrimp tossed in chef’s special glaze and served with tartar sauce

Mains

  • Tamarind Chili Shrimps: Gulf shrimps, tamarind chili sauce, fresh red chilies, green and yellow capsicum (with fried rice)
  • Kung Pao Chicken: Fried diced chicken, celery, red peppers, zucchini, dried chilies, kung pao sauce and peanuts (with stir fried egg noodles)
  • The Greek Wedding Pizza: Feta, mozzarella & parmesan, grilled chicken breast, black olives, grilled onions and tomatoes, oregano and extra virgin oil
  • Cheezy Cheetos: Tomato, mozzarella, pepper jack, crunchy Cheetos and parmesan cheese

Desserts

  • Lotus French Toast: Lotus cream stuffed brioche, vanilla anglaise, lotus spread drizzle, lotus crumbs, whipped cream and maple syrup. Served with a scoop of ice cream
  • Sizzling Sticky Toffee: A date flavored pudding topped with vanilla ice cream, strawberries and warm butterscotch sauce

Oh Wow! Listing all that has worn us out so you now know we weren’t exaggerating about the menu and there are sections that we didn’t even touch upon yet like the entrees, burgers, monster burgers, sundaes and more!  The best part is that the restaurant also serves all day breakfast! Out of the savory dishes, our favorites were the Wok Bowls, the Greek Pizza and all the appetizers we ordered. Despite having three Asian dishes on our list, none of the flavors were repetitive and we could always alternate between them and the other items on the table. Be it the mojitos and margaritas or the milkshakes, Sugar Factory’s drinks are gargantuan and although we decided we’d only order the one; Chatur and Suzette brought us the milkshake and we are glad they did because it was as tasty as it was pretty! After all the indulgence, we had half a mind to just end our meal with some herbal tea and leave but once again, the restaurant staff stopped us in our tracks by placing the creamy Lotus French Toast on our table (I believe they overheard us talking about it prior to placing our order) and the sizzling sticky toffee pudding and at the risk of sounding repetitive, we are glad they did. Delicious is all we can say!

Luckily during our tasting, there was a huge group celebrating a birthday so we got to see the way Sugar Factory celebrates birthdays as well and boy, they were spot on when they named their colossal Sundae, King Kong - 24 scoops of ice cream covered with hot fudge, caramel, strawberry sauce, pretzels, sliced bananas, marshmallows, malt balls, chocolate chip cookies, waffle cones, gummi bears, and white chocolate among many other toppings! We finally did end our meal with herbal tea and left with full bellies and bags of candy that the restaurant gifted us as we departed.

This review seems to be getting as long as the menu so we will end here. In a nutshell, Sugar Factory is a fun and friendly restaurant that is perfect for birthdays and occasions and features a vast (and instagrammable) selection of food, drinks, and desserts.
