Restaurant Review:
Masti

La Mer
Dubai

Masti, the Hindi term for ‘fun and mischief,’ is a fitting name for award-winning Chef Hari Nayak’s swanky new restaurant and lounge that finds its perfect dwelling at hotspot La Mer. Honestly what’s more fun than eating your way through distinct delicacies that have been created by prominent Dubai name, Chef Prashant Chipkar (who has been part of renowned kitchens like Gaggan, Rasoi and in Dubai, Bombay Bungalow among others) and his team. The food is complemented with ritzy drinks that have been fashioned by talented mixologists. In a nutshell, modernity blends with tradition while Indian flavors mix with international ones at Masti leading to a colorful menu that is a sensory treat. As if the food and drink were not enough, Masti’s ambiance is one to reckon with. Plush seating, warm lighting, sprawling outdoor terraces, cutting-edge artwork on the wall that reiterates the Indian-International alliance and an eclectic bar makes Masti a very Instagram-worthy restaurant.

Appetizers & Mains

  • Black Bass Ceviche, Gunpowder Plantain Chips
  • Sundried Tomato Prawns, Swiss Lentil Chaat
  • Banana Branzino, Fennel Slaw
  • Cassava Chaat
  • Tuna Bhel Tartare, Avocado Crema
  • Beetroot Croquettes, Red Pepper Mayo, Crisp Kale Leaves
  • Stuffed Morels With Truffles, Mushrooms Reduction
  • Saag Paneer Lasagne, Coconut Lime Sauce
  • Saffron Goji-Berry Pulao
  • Sundried Tomato Naan

  • Quinoa Crusted Keema Popsicle, Green Chutney

We have to admit that every dish that made its way to our table was a sight for sore eyes! The combinations were unique and definitely not something we’d have thought to combine. Our favorites among the palatable array were the Cassava chaat, Sundried Tomato prawns and Swiss lentil chaat, stuffed morels, Saag Paneer Lasagne (who would have thought!), Tandoori Chicken Baos and Keema Popsicles. We have had our fair share of Baos on our trips to the Far East (one of us was even born in Taiwan) and so, having it served to us with an Indian filling in lieu of the usual ones was pretty cool and really appetizing to boot. We paired the meal with some interesting drinks (below) that added their own bit of drama to the meal.

Drinks

  • Pear Vision
  • Mumbay

Desserts

  • Carrot – Coconut Cake, Coconut Snow, Winter Berry Sauce
  • Mango Chocolate Cheese Cake, Vanilla Cigar, Crisp Mango
  • Strawberry – Cumin Chocolates Delice, Chocolate Soil, Popping Candy
  • Lotus Tiramisu, White Chocolate – Saffron Basundi

Although filled to the brim with the delicious food, our past experiences with Chef Chipkar ensured that we weren’t going to leave without dessert and boy did he indulge us or what! The charming platters of dessert were proper works of art that we went totally paparazzi on before devouring them. Our favorites? The mango cheesecake and the lotus tiramisu!

We got a grand tour of the multi-storeyed restaurant, its different seating areas from the more boisterous section to the intimate and elegant one and even the kitchen where we witnessed the magic as it happened. Fancy a night filled with fun, mischief, indulgence, great food, drink and lots more? Then Masti is where you need to go!
