Restaurant Review:
Crisol

University City
Sharjah

The past year or so, Sharjah has pleasantly surprised us with the awesome set of restaurants that have opened up all over the city; ranging from cool and fun outlets to the more chic and classy eateries. The long weekend of National Day had us head back to the city to check out the suave Crisol Restaurant and Lounge, situated near prominent University City. We were invited for a National Day themed tasting and for the occasion, a special menu had been created featuring popular delicacies from the usually American/Tex-Mex menu menu albeit with some Emirati twists and touches. When tradition subtly mingles with modernity, you know you have a hit on your hands and that is what we discovered at our tasting.

Below are our picks from the set menu. The good news is that you can find these goodies on the regular menu as well!

  • The Cuban Salad: Crispy Chicken With Assorted Cabbage, Greens, Crispy Noodles And Plum Dressing
  • Rocket Shrimps: Hot Crispy Shrimp, Root Vegetables, Crispi’s, Rice Noodles, Special Rocket Sauce
  • Trash-Can Nachos: Loaded Nachos With Combination Of Special Sauces And Pico De Gallo
  • Calamares: Togarashi Fried Calamari with North Asian Dressing
  • Dangerous Sliders: Buttermilk Chicken, Bibb Lettuce, Cheddar And Pepperjack Cheese, Soft Fried Jalapeno, Chimichurri Aioli Sauce
  • Seafood Paella: Spanish Saffron Rice With Assorted Seafood
  • Crisol Hit: Special Layered Cake With Homemade Infused Ice Cream
  • Baked Yoghurt (Saffron, Pistachio And Mocha Flavors)
  • Strawberry Mojito & Blue Margarita

The Rocket Shrimps, Cuban Salad and the Seafood Paella are items that must not be missed out on. The trash can nachos while really cool in their appearance and plating, fell slightly short of expectations. Forgive us for being cheesy but the aptly named Crisol HIT was indeed a hit and hit all the right notes! A mix of milk chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut with a generous helping of warm chocolate drizzled all over the dessert, the Crisol HIT is a dream for chocolate fans. The Baked yoghurt proved to be a decent break whenever we felt like a chocolate overdose was coming on. Our most preferred yoghurt flavor was saffron.  Considering this tasting celebrated the auspicious occasion of National Day, there were little touches of the flag being placed on every dish and the UAE National Anthem being played at regular intervals that really took the experience up a notch. Please note that the portions at the restaurant are quite substantial so order wisely.

All in all, the elegance and opulence of Crisol Restaurant and Lounge and its interesting fare made for a nice, satisfying lunch experience.
